چکیده

Trans-cinnamic acid is a phenolic compound with wide range of bioactive properties, including antioxidant and antibacterial effects. It also has high potential in the food cosmetic industries. We aimed to isolate trans-cinnamic from Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) study its geroprotective activity on Caenorhabditis elegans nematodes used as model organism.
Our objects included S. baicalensis root culture extract, isolated C. nematodes. was by high-performance liquid chromatography. The acid’s studied evaluating effect at concentrations 10, 50, 100, 200 μmol/L lifespan, stress resistance, reproductivity elegans. For lifespan study, were cultivated 20°C for 61 days. To assess their resistance oxidative stress, 15 μL 1M paraquat added each well plate. Thermal determined raising temperature 33°C. S-medium addition Escherichia coli OP50 required 72 h.
maximum increase (9.8%) observed treated 50 acid. Under all increased survival nematodes, while under thermal reduced percentage surviving At concentration 100 μmol/L, nematodes’ reproduction 1.48 times.
Based our data, can be recommended activity. However, further research needed other organisms detailed toxicity studies.

Quality Assessment and Yield of Baikal Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) Grown at Multiple Locations

Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) is an important medicinal plant with proven bioactivity. Commercially available products in the United States containing extracts or derivatives from this plant species have beep shown to lack consistency of chemical composition and bioactivity. In the United States, these issues could be solved through domestic production of skullcap. The hypothesis of...

Quantification of propionic acid from Scutellaria baicalensis roots

BACKGROUND Propionic acid is a widely used preservative and has been mainly formed by artificial synthesis or fermentation. In the case of natural products, the presence of propionic acid is viewed as a sign that an additive has been introduced for antimicrobial effects. METHODS In this work, the propionic acid that occurs in Scutellaria baicalensis roots was studied. A quantification method ...

The Extraction, Anticancer Effect, Bioavailability, and Nanotechnology of Baicalin

The dried root of Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) has been historically and widely used in traditional Eastern medicine. Modern science proved that baicalin is the major bioactive responsible for the physiological activity of Baikal skullcap. Baicalin, a flavonoid found in several species in the genus Scutellaria, has been regarded as a potent anticancer agent. In this review, we pres...

Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) Hexane Fraction Inhibits the Permeation of Ovalbumin and Regulates Th1/2 Immune Responses

Skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) is well known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects. In our previous study, we found that skullcap could inhibit allergen permeation and regulate Th1/2 immune balance. To reveal the key fractions and components of skullcap, we fractionated skullcap extract into five fractions: hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, butanol, and water fraction. Among ...

Antioxidant activity of flavones from Scutellaria baicalensis in lecithin liposomes.

The antioxidant effect of a trihydroxyflavone extract from Scutellaria baicalensis on oxidation induced by ultraviolet light, was studied with phosphatidylcholine liposome membrane. Also, as standards, the antioxidative activity of baicalin, wogonin, baicalein and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) was investigated. Comparison of the protective effects of the compounds studied against photoinduced ...
